The Path to Becoming a Smile Specialist
Dr. Ibrahim didn’t take the standard route to become a board-certified orthodontist. She actually did her undergraduate studies in bioengineering. Yet, she quickly decided she wanted to enter the field of dentistry. Therefore, she went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and her Advanced Combined Prosthodontics Certificate from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Upon graduating, she practiced prosthetic, implant, aesthetic and restorative dentistry and treated adults with a variety of complex dental needs for nearly 10 years. She was also a consultant at a globally recognized dental company, Bisco, Inc., where she conducted national and international lectures.
In the early 2000s, Dr. Ibrahim headed back to school once more for specialty training at New York University College of Dentistry where she received her Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics Certificate. Now, she’s a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and dedicates her time to the practice of orthodontics as the founder and practicing orthodontist of Innovative Orthodontic Centers in Naperville and Shorewood.

Due to Dr. Ibrahim’s unique background in prosthetics, implants and orthodontics, as well as her two specialty training programs, she has the ability to treat patients presenting with any degree of complexity. In fact, she’s one of the few orthodontists to offer Invisalign to all of her patients regardless of their diagnosis or age and she’s a leader in early interceptive treatment with Invisalign. Can You Tell She Likes to Keep Busy?
Dr. Ibrahim stays abreast of breakthroughs in orthodontics through continuing education and memberships in the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics, American Association of Orthodontists, American College of Prosthodontics, American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, American Dental Association, Chicago Dental Society and the Illinois State Dental Society. She also maintains her affiliation with her dental school and is on the Alumni Association Board of Directors at the University of Illinois. Dr. Ibrahim returned to her alma mater and has been passing on her knowledge to aspiring orthodontists as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry since 2018. Though she spent 11 years studying at UIC and five years teaching, this position was her first appointment in the Orthodontic Department. Dr. Ibrahim is heavily involved as a Dean’s Council Member, Dean’s Technology Strategic Advisory Board member and the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
By providing outstanding care to her patients, Dr. Ibrahim has won “Best Dentist in Naperville” for 13 consecutive years! She’s been featured in Chicago Magazine, Chicago Social, Naperville Magazine and CRAVE, which highlights the top women entrepreneurs in Chicago. She’s also been on NCTV17 and 95.9 The River with Scott Mackay.

Dr. Ibrahim’s husband, Dr. Anthony LaVacca, is a board-certified prosthodontist and founder of Naperville Dental Specialists. His practice is complete with a large team of hygienists, prosthodontists, general dentists and surgeons. Together, Dr. Ibrahim and Dr. LaVacca are also founders of Innovative Pediatric Dentistry and an in-house digital lab, Impact Dental. All of the practices fall under the Innovative Dental Partners umbrella, which has allowed them to create a place where patients can move through the timeline of their smile needs. With connected offices, a vibrant, family atmosphere and coordination at every level, they’ve truly built a one-of-a-kind, integrated dental destination that offers their patients a lifetime oral health solution.
